Spotlight: San Francisco, CA

Great food, ocean views, tours, and beyond!

Don’t call it San Fran.. Just Don’t!

Where to even start. San Francisco is a blend of cultures, history, steep hills, fresh seafood, views, and amazingly close to wine country. The ultimate girls trip or long weekend getaway can be found here. If you are looking to brunch street-side as cable cars pass by, ride under golden gate on a double-decker bus tour, or take a ferry over to spooky Alcatraz island... you are in luck. There is so much to do here.

Here are my tips and highlights:

Highlights

  1. Plan ahead. Tours book up, especially Alcatraz. Even months in advance. Check out GetYourGuide to book yours! Alcatraz was so cool.

  2. Bring a jacket! You think Cali, you think warm. It gets quite chilly and windy when the sun goes down.

  3. Do a dinner cruise! We found one that took us under the Golden Gate Bridge. It was perfect for sunset pics!

  4. Plan to spend more than originally planned. You pay more for fresh seafood and pretty much everything, but its well worth it for experience and good food.

  5. Download Uber. Extremely reasonable. You dont want to hike those hills all day long, plus some of the cool trendy neighborhoods are more than a short walk.

  6. I felt like a dork buying the “Hop on Hop off” bus tour, but its honestly a great way to learn history and see all the top neighborhoods and sites.

  7. Go smell chocolate in the air and get free samples at Ghirardelli Square!

  8. The Science and Industry Museum has “adults only” night and they have wine and a DJ. Enough said.

  9. Visit Top of The Mark (hotel top floor, overlooking all of San Francisco) for happy hour and soak in them views! 📷

  10. Brunch galore! My favorite was MyMY. Their eggs Benedict options are incredible!

  11. Take a day to visit wine country! There are many tours. Splurge a little to get a better mode of transportation. We were in a big van smashed like sardines, but we still had a blast. I loved Jacuzzi Winery, but next time I’m set on checking out the “wine caves” 📷

  12. Muir woods is very close! Big beautiful majestic trees.  There is a small fee to enter

  13. The Scarlet Huntington is an amazing hotel. We somehow got lucky using the “mystery hotel” option on Hotwire. It has an incredible spa, pool, views of the cathedral, and walking distance to many great spots.

  14. Ride the cable cars!

  15. Visit China Town! It is one of the biggest in the entire united states.

  16. Boudins bakery is a must. Gotta get the sour dough soup bowl!

  17. Fisherman’s Warf is touristy, but good for walking around shopping and people watching, and eating! There’s also seals ALL over.

  18. There’s a lot of good people watching... If you’re into that sort of thing

  19. The restaurant The Franciscan Crab Restaurant has great seafood and great views of the ocean!

  20. Id suggest ubering, walking, cable cars, and utilizing tours while there. The hills are beyond steep and parking there is a new skill. Save yourself the trouble of renting a car.

  21. Rent a bike and cruise over Golden Gate bridge over to the town Sausalito. It looks like Italy

Have fun exploring!
